This toolbox focuses on 6 reading strategy areas: self-monitoring, making connections, inferring, mental images, summarizing, questioning, text structure, and prediction.
In our district we seem to constantly be changing literacy curriculum. While this can be frustrating and time consuming to learn a new curriculum, it drove me to create supplemental materials that can be used in correlation with any reading program!
With this purchase you will have access to:
•Teaching prompts- to be used as a jumping-off point, then decide how you want to
continue instruction after the prompt.
•Strategy cards- these can be printed and put on a ring for easy use by students and
teachers! The strategy cards allows students to practice
independently what they need to do in order to successfully practice
making sense of text.
•Book marks- while these have a little less information on them than the strategy
cards, they are really helpful for students starting to practice with
beginning chapter books.
•Booklists-a whole page dedicated to each of the six strategy areas!
•Informal assessments-allows you to see where your student is at in their concept
grasp while they have a little fun too.
•Strategy posters-a nice review of main points for each strategy that can be printed
off and hung up.
Having these materials ready to use and accessible should help ease some of the stress we as teachers face, while also reaching those students who need additional support.
