Resource Directions:

August Writing Station Words: Print and laminate a few colored copies of the July Writing Station words for students to use or copy one sheet for each student to put in their writing folder or journal.

How to Make a S’more Organizer: (3 types): After reading camping stories and discussing how to make s’mores have students fill out one of the “How To” organizers on how to make a s’more.

“Things to Take Camping” Classroom Book: Copy cover on cardstock and then copy the student sheet for each student and have them write and draw what you need to take on a camping trip. Collect each student paper and make classroom book binding or stapling book together.

“C if for Camping” Classroom Book: Read the book ‘S is for S’mores” and copy cover on cardstock and then copy the student sheet for each student and have them choose a letter and think of something that you need to take with you for camping with that letter and write and draw it on their student page. Collect each student paper and make classroom book binding or stapling book together.

“Going Camping” Student Booklet:
Copy and assemble each of the “ Going Camping” booklets for each students . There are two booklet pages to each sheet with one cover and 8 other pages.. You can copy as many pages as you would like students to do. Students fill in the blank of each camping statement and then draw a picture of what they wrote.

Camping Poem:
Copy the Camping Acrostic poem either on copy paper or cardstock. Students write words that begin with each of the letters of the word CAMPING to complete the poem. You may display these poems in the classroom or hallway or make into classroom book.

Paper Plate S’mores Art Project: Copy and assemble S’mores using the directions and template page in unit. Hang S’mores in hallway or in the classroom for decorations.
“Going Camping” Classroom Book: Copy cover on cardstock and then copy the student sheet for each student and have them write and draw what they can do on a camping trip. Collect each student paper and make classroom book binding or stapling book together.

“A Camping Spree With Mr. Magee” Story Elements (2 types): After reading the story a few times, have students fill out the story elements: characters, setting, problem & ending., either by drawing or writing out with words.

“A Camping Spree With Mr. Magee” Retelling (3 types): After reading the story a few times, have students fill out the story retelling organizer, beginning, middle, and ending of the story. Two organizer have the boxes with lines and one is a marshmallow shape to organize the retelling.

“I See Camping Trip” Student Booklet: Students can work on this booklet at center or quiet work time to practice their number and color words. Students copy over the number and color word and then color the camping trip pictures the correct color. You can copy the pages on regular paper, there are two booklet pages to each sheet with one cover and 10 other pages..

“If I Spent a Night in a Tent” Student write about what they do if they spent a night in a tent. There are two pages one with title and then extra writing sheet to each sheet You can copy as many pages as you would like students to do.

Campfire Art Project:
Copy and assemble the Campfire using the directions and template page in unit. Hang the campfires in hallway or in the classroom for decorations.

Camping Gear Match Game:
Children place the cards face down in rows. They take turns turning two cards over to see if they have matched the same camping gear to the word. If it does they keep both cards, if not they turn the cards back over and the next child has a turn. The person who has the most matches wins the game.

S’more Make a Word Game: Children take a marshmallow or chocolate (consonant & consonant blends are provided) and put it in front of a graham cracker word chunk to make a word. Children can write word on paper or white board or use one of the 8 worksheets to go with this activity. Camping & Campers Roll & Bump Games
(2 different games): Roll two or three number cubes and add those numbers. Cover that space with your marker. You can bump your partner’s color and take their space! If you cover a space with two markers stacked on top of each other, you lock that space and can’t be bumped. The player to use all ten of their markers first is the winner! 4 game cards for two dice & 4 game cards for three dice .

S’more 3 Addend Addition Clip Game: Children read the 3 addend addition number sentence and find the sum of all three numbers. Children place a paper clip or clothes pin to the correct answer of the number sentence.
