Resource Directions:

December Writing Station Words: Print and laminate a few colored copies of the December Writing Station words for students to use or copy one sheet for each student to put in their writing folder or journal.

“The Gingerbread Man Run, Run as Fast as You Can” Classroom Book: Copy cover on cardstock and then copy the student sheet for each student and have them write and draw what they would run away from if they were the Gingerbread Man. Collect each student paper and make classroom book binding or stapling book together.

Gingerbread Baby Story Parts (2 types): After reading the story a few times, have students fill out the story retelling organizer, putting the story in sequential order. They can either draw or write their answers on the sheet in the appropriate box.

“Gingerbread Man” Student Booklet: Copy and assemble each of the “Gingerbread Man” booklets for each students . There are two booklet pages to each sheet with one cover and 8 color pages.. You can copy as many pages as you would like students to do. Students color the Gingerbread Man the correct color and then practice reading the booklet.

Gingerbread Man/Gingerbread Baby Venn Diagram: After reading the stories a few times, students compare and contrast the two stories. This can be done as a whole group or will older students in a center or during worktime.

“The Gingerbread New Ending” Classroom Book: Copy cover on cardstock and then copy the student sheet for each student and have them write and draw a new ending for the story “The Gingerbread Man”. Collect each student paper and make classroom book binding or stapling book together.

Gingerbread Man Art Project:
Copy and assemble Gingerbread Men using the directions and template page in unit. Hang Gingerbread Men in hallway or in the classroom for decorations.

Gingerbread Real & Nonsense Words:
Children place cards face down and take turns drawing a card. Student reads words and decides whether it is a real word or nonsense words. Child checks with partner or group to make sure he/she is accurate. Child can place card on the correct chart provided or child writes words on t-chart on white board or use sheet provided in this resource (each student may have a sheet or you could use one sheet for the whole game). Gingerbread Man Roll and Cover:
(2 types) Print with colored ink and laminate. Students roll dice and cover the number that corresponds to the number of dots rolled on the die. Can be played individual or with a partner.

“How to Decorate a Christmas Tree“ Classroom Book: Copy cover on cardstock and then copy the student sheet for each student and have them write and draw how they would decorate a Christmas tree. Collect each student paper and make classroom book binding or stapling book together.

“A Wish to be a Christmas Tree” Story Parts:
(2 types): After reading the story a few times, have students fill out the story Parts organizer, naming and drawing each of the parts of the story in the appropriate box..

“A Wish to be a Christmas Tree” Story Retelling : (2 types): After reading the story a few times, have students fill out the story retelling organizer, putting the story in sequential order. They can either draw or write their answers on the sheet in the appropriate box.

“How Many Trees” Student Booklet:
Copy and assemble each of the “How Many Trees” booklets for each students . I have set it up so you can copy the pages back to back them make booklet for each student. Students color the trees the correct color, practice writing the number and then practice reading the booklet.

Christmas Tree Art Project: Using strips of paper assemble tree onto construction paper using the directions provided. Hang Christmas Trees in hallway or in the classroom for decorations.

“Our Favorite Presents “ Classroom Book:
Copy cover on cardstock and then copy the student sheet for each student and have them write about the most favorite present they have received. . Collect each student paper and make classroom book binding or stapling book together.

Tree Make a Word Game: Children take an ornament (consonant & consonant blends are provided) and put it in front of a word chunk tree to make a word. Children can write word on paper or white board or use one of the 8 worksheets to go with this activity.

Christmas Tree Number Match Game: (2 types) Print with colored ink and laminate (print as many ornaments as you think you will need). Cut tress and ornament cards. Students place the number of ornaments to match the Christmas tree’s numeral or number word.
