READING WITH A PLAN (Activity and Poster)

Where/how to use it: This deep reading poster clarifies 8 strategies that successful readers use when they encounter difficult text. Refer to this poster when you introduce deep reading centers. Explain each strategy. Give the students an opportunity to discuss which strategies they already use, which ones have proven to be most useful, and which ones they’d like to try. Afterwards, hang this poster prominently in the classroom as a reminder – it will be helpful whenever students do independent reading and when you do classroom Learning and Literacy Centers. Consider modeling these strategies whenever you read aloud to the class.
