My classes have been working on figurative language. I came up with this idea to play with it a little. The students have to write a sentence that has figurative language. They have to identify the type of figurative language being used. They they have to tell what it means. At the top they draw a literal interpretation of what is being said.
example (I used): The sun was beating down on me.
The sun was shining on me.
The picture was of a sun wearing boxing gloves hitting someone walking by.
