Are you constantly looking for ways to sneak more writing into your novel units? Do you spend your preps grading essays and tearing your hair out because your students don't seem to be making progress?
Help your students become better writers with this resource, "The Quick Lit Essay Handout Packet"!
This packet is 9 pages and includes the following:
- 5 student handouts including student writing samples and differentiated instruction
- 2 teacher resources including answer key and resource overview
- 1 rubric.
Here's a breakdown of each resource by title:
1. The Quick Lit Essay
This handout simply outlines the criteria for the assignment. It is purposefully minimal on information since I dive deeper into the details of the assignment with the subsequent handouts.
2. Let’s Examine A Sample: The Quick Lit Essay
This is a real student sample written about Frankenstein . It helps students fully understand expectations and visualize the product.
3. Let’s Examine A Sample: The Quick Lit Essay TEACHER COPY
This is your copy with the parts labeled for easy access and quick student spot-checking
4. Let’s Break It Down: The Quick Lit Essay
This is a modification for those students who need writing supports, especially when is comes to forming strong thesis statements and integrating evidence and analysis smoothly into their writing (or even including those things at all). I often do a lesson using the thesis generator with everyone because, let’s face it, everyone probably needs thesis practice!
5. The Quick Lit Essay Rubric
Grade away! My rubric is half science, half art J. Use the criteria to norm and take a rough average of the results. Side note: I developed this method when I found that numeric-based rubrics favored high achievers and left my students with IEPs absolutely no wiggle room. You can always change it to numbers if need be!
