Product Description
This rigorous writing task is CCSS Aligned and asks students to engage with classic short stories in a critical manner! Have your students read, analyze, synthesize, compare and contrast the short stories, “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson and “A Rose for Emily” by William Faulkner!

In this essay assignment, students will collect evidence from the short stories to support the overall argument. In addition, students will take the evidence from both texts and develop warrants to prove the claim of their literary analysis essays.

- DIFFERENTIATION Students choose from three specific prompts for the essay, each focusing on a different literary device or technique: influence of setting, theme: tradition/change, and irony.
