Here is a non-linguistic way for your students to demonstrate their understanding of characters and conflicts within a short story or novel. Students draw or write the character names, then use various lines to indicate the type of relationships between characters. This character map will work for any story or novel. Teachers can scaffold the instruction here by keeping it simple for struggling learners, or adding more complexity to challenge your more advanced students. Students LOVE to do this project, and they can really make their own original designs. Created by Whitney Harris.
