Celebrate the holidays in your classroom while keeping the academic component with this creative symbolism Christmas tree ornament project. Students select a work of literature they've read, identifying a symbol within the work, and use that symbol to create a three-dimensional Christmas tree ornament. A writing component accompanies the craft, so students get the opportunity to explain and analyze their symbol.
Sample pictures are included. I purchased a pre-lit Christmas tree from Michaels and then had students present their ornaments and hang them on the tree. Even if you don't have an actual tree in your classroom, you can hang these from a bulletin board or a display case.
