Remember that Lit Crit class you took in college? It's definitely on my list of difficult classes! These cards are meant to challenge students on the important, yet difficult task of analyzing literature according to a specific critical approach. There are four questions for each type of criticism:
Typically, we don’t teach these in HS (at least the standards don’t call for us to), but if you do, or even if you don’t, you shouldn’t shy away from trying these with your students. They are difficult, but not impossible. If anything, you will expose your students to concepts they will see in college. And they don’t have to hit the nail on the head right now…practice is good!
I hope you find these useful for small group discussions, writing stations, individual work, etc. They can be used in many ways!
