I use this toward the end of the year when I am ready to review the literary devices we have studied throughout the year. Students are to take a story that I wrote and filled with such devices and "color" the devices according to the key in the directions. Each device is assigned its own color and students can underline or lightly shade them with colored pencils. This is a fun activity that is great for visual learners. When they complete it, they are literally able to see how such devices "color" writing.
