Crafting literature is hard, and these short creative writing exercises allow students to practice the application of literary devices without getting overwhelmed with applying all of them collectively in larger creative writing assignments.

Included in this unit are 5 unique creative writing exercises, each based around a key literary device (Details, Diction, Imagery, Point of View, and Tone). Each exercise comes with a writing exercise topic, an example, and its own straightforward rubric. Simple, engaging, and a great building block to the development of sound creative writing skills.
