Writers use various literary devices to make their writing more vivid and thought provoking. The most common are Simile, Metaphor, Alliteration, Personification, and Hyperbole. This exercise has 20 multiple choice questions and opportunities for students to write the five literary devices. The answers are provided for your convenience.
Learning to recognize these 5 literary devices and to write original examples of them will give your students’ a better understanding of literature and their writing skills a new level of sophistication.
Instead of printing the pages and distributing them to students, if you prefer, you can give them a link to each page and they can view the digital slide in their Google Drive and record their answers on Google Slides. Students can submit their work to you however you wish. (Google Classroom, email, etc.)
