This is a really fun way to get students to be creative. I provide the students with a list of "need to know" liteary devices. They then work in groups to create a literay device song that must include the word, definition, and example. The song has to be the tune of a song that already exists. I've gotten everything from a student playing a guitar to the tune of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" to a group doing full on choreography to "Fergalicious."
I always let the students choose their favortite literary device song and then we ALL learn and sing it. It becomes our "class song."
Plus, you'll hear the students quietly singing the song when they're trying to remember a definition. :-)
