Distribute assignment to students as it has a glossary of literary terms and their definition on it.
Upon playing two songs for the class (Monster by Eminem and Gone, Gone, Gone by Phillips Phillips) ask students to search the lyrics for literary devices, using the glossary on their assignment. As a class, discuss the devices that were found. Many lyrics can apply to multiple devices!
Afterwards, ask students to complete the assignment. The assignment instructs students to find three songs of their choosing and to analyze the lyrics using the same glossary of terms.
Lyrics are included in assignment and are numbered by lines, but answer key is not provided.
