Looking for a short yet comprehensive unit for your students to brush up on their literary elements? Having trouble getting your upper and middle grade students to talk about character, plot, setting, theme, and more? Then look no further!
This is a complete mini-unit, which combines two of my favorite products (the Literary Elements Flashcards and Posters
(19 pages) and Literary Elements Quizzes and Worksheets
(12 pages), along with a lesson guide (20 pages) for the whole unit.
This 55 page complete mini-unit is aligned with the Common Core State Standards. The literary elements covered include: protagonist, antagonist, setting, dialogue, plot, conflict, rising action, climax, resolution, mood/tone, genre, and theme.
This mini-unit is a great way to not just teach your students the meanings of literary elements, but develop within them a deep understanding of and ability to apply these concepts to literature. It is a unit that I use in my Title I remedial reading classroom to great effect, but could also be used in a regular classroom or small group setting.
