A strong understanding of how the pieces of a plot fit together is integral to developing students as both readers and writers. Once students become fluent in the elements of the plot, they will begin to recognize them in the books they are reading and create them in their own narrative stories. Furthermore, your class will have a common vocabulary on which to rely during discussions, author's chair, critiques, direct instruction, and more.
