Tone and Mood are two literary elements that are easily confused and are difficult for students to understand.
Tone is many times explained as an author’s/narrator’s attitude toward story, movie, music, video games etc. Tone is the author’s particular way of expressing his/her feelings/attitudes about the character, an event(s), or the outcome of the story. The author often accomplishes tone through word choice, dialogue, and vivid description or imagery.
Mood is the feeling that is aroused in the reader: happy, sad, peaceful, etc. Mood is the overall feeling of the piece of literature, story, or passage.
