This complete literary genre unit includes definitions for the following genres and subgenres: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, biography, autobiography, speech, reference, informational, newspaper, realistic fiction, historical fiction, science fiction, drama, mystery, horror, fantasy, fable, fairy tale, folklore/folk tale, and mythology.
There are seven separate resources/activities included. They can be presented in any order.

Definitions: A 2-page list of genre and sub genre definitions. It can be used as a reference page for students or it can be blown up to become a classroom poster.
Flash Cards: A full set of flash cards can be printed and used for studying. Blank flash cards are included in case you want to add to my list.
Genre Matching Game: These pages can be copied and cut apart for a word-to-definition matching game. Blank cards included.
Visualizing-the-Genre Activity: Students sketch pictures to represent each genre.
Book Title Classification Activity: Students use clues from book titles to determine the genre or subgenre of a specific book. Answer key included.
Genre Book Cover Activity: Student design and create a book cover for a specific subgenre following a set of guidelines. Makes a great bulletin board! Rubric included.
Literary Genre Test: Students are tested on matching genres and subgenres to their definitions. Answer key included.
