Everything you need to review and extend reading skills in your classroom! This unit is based on a novel study of "The Wizard of Oz" by L. Frank Baum. It includes lesson plans and activities on a variety of literary, informational, and arugmentative reading skills. In addition to the lesson plans, you get printable handouts/worksheets and informational text reading passages to go with the activities.
There are opening and closing lessons, a file folder project to go with the novel, a research paper project, and multimedia experience comparing the novel with the classic 1939 movie and one other adaptation.
Reading skills in the unit include:
Literary Text: Plot, Character Analysis, Theme, Point of View, Setting Analysis, Media Comparison
Informational Text: Close Reading, Central Idea, Summarizing, Graphic Features, Functional Text
Argumentative (Persuasive) Text: Developing a Claim, Supporting Evidence, Research
This is a great end-of-the-year unit, as it encompasses so many skills and types of text. It will also engage your students, many of whom will be encountering this classic story for the first time!
