This is a great way to engage students after an independent reading assignment. Students must play the role of a major character from his/her selected novel and interact with other "characters" for a class period. This assignment could also be adapted for authors. During the session, I always mingle with the students and ask them questions to see if they respond appropriately in-character. It's a fun activity and a great way to assess quickly who read their book and who didn't without having to assign and grade mounds of tests, quizzes, or papers.
