In this project, students will work in small groups (4-6 students) to analyze selected essays. The essays for analysis include:
Students will work in groups to create a presentation that they will share with the class. The purpose of this activity is to guide students in recognizing different modes of writing and the effectiveness of choosing the best mode to achieve a specific purpose. As a follow up activity, students can select a topic of their choice, take a position, and write an essay in the appropriate mode. This assignment pairs with Unit 3 of the new AP Language Curriculum: REO-1.
A rubric for grading is included as well as some tips for students in their analysis. Also provided is an student example PPT to use as an illustration.
