Tired of teaching the literary movements chronologically or in the same old fashion? Use my crash course lesson to make it more interesting for you and your students!
This handout provides you with enough content for a FULL 3-4 week unit! The activities and texts within this unit cover almost every reading literary and informational standards as well as various speaking/listening and writing standards.
It can be used with the Prentice Hall "The American Experience" Timeless Voices, Timeless Themes textbook or you could find the texts online for your students.
Week 1: Students are grouped and assigned a literary period. They conduct research over their topic and create a poster for the class. They then present this poster to the class and students take notes over the content. You can cover notes on 8 literary movements in just 2 days! I also kept the posters in my room as a reference for students while we completed the unit. Students loved seeing their work on the classroom walls. :)
Weeks 2-4: Study 1-2 texts from each literary period (using the list of texts on the handout).
This is a great way to teach students a plethora of reading skills they will need throughout the year as well as a way inform them of the various literary periods.
