I created this assignment out of frustration with the traditional reading log. I wasn't convinced that students were reading the amount they logged, and I wasn't convinced that the required parent signature was encouraging my students to read more.
Moving away from the traditional reading log, the Independent Reading Analysis Form provides students with the opportunity to analyze their independent reading.
Once the routine is up and running in your classroom, your students will understand and practice literary analysis on a weekly basis. This is a structured, standards-based assignment that is completed independently by your students.
Students will choose from seven different response options (six of which are CCSS-aligned) to respond to their independent reading. The entire document is editable-- feel free to add or remove any type of analysis you choose. I've included: Point of View, Figurative Language, Vocabulary, Summary, Setting, and Theme. There's also an option for Free Response.
