This file includes resources to model answering a prompt about finding theme in fairy tales or stories using a gradual release model. The gradual release model is a three (or 4) -step process to teach a lesson.
Teacher Model = "I do it and show you my thinking."
Guided Practice = "We do it together (as a whole group)."
Collaborative Practice = "You do it with a partner/group." (Optional)
Independent Practice: "You do it."

- An example of a response to the following prompt: "Theme is the overall moral or lesson that can be learned from reading stories. What is the theme of this story? Use evidence from the text to support your thinking."
- Two guided practice/collaborative practice outlines (one is for Little Red Riding Hood: A Newfangled Prairie Tale and the other is blank to use with any text)
- Independent printable page with prompt
- Printable page of prompts for independent practice for student reading logs/journals
