This school-wide comprehension challenge 'sample bundle' is part of a school and home-based reading program called 'The Society of Literary Scholars.' In theory, aspects of set #1 should be utilized mid-school year and aspects of set #2 should be utilized at the end of a school year. Both sets are intended to be used after students and staff participating in the program have read the books associated with the individual challenge.
In order to fully utilize this product, you will need to purchase, have access to, the corresponding books. (A minimum of one of each title, per class, is recommended.)
Note: The purchase of a full priced product automatically includes all grade levels, and corresponding classrooms specified within product title. *This is for use with one Elementary School. Please send other interested individuals to my store to make additional purchases.
Although having read the books is highly encouraged, this product was made to be fully usable
regardless of whether a student has read all of the books on the list, some of the books on the list, or none of the books on the list. (It was created to 'work' for all of the students at an entire school at the same time!) Granted, students who are familiar with these stories will have a slight advantage over those who are not.
The focus is simply for all students in a school to participate simultaneously in a literacy activity that is fully differentiated.
*This program is currently being used with wonderful success at an Elementary school in Utah!
A Quick Overview
- WHAT IS A 'SOCIETY OF SCHOLARS?'
•The ‘Society of Literary Scholars’ program is dear to my heart. It is a true labor of love that I have been developing for years!
•It is a school and home-based reading program. A method of immersing children in a culture of literacy by providing them with quality books at all times. A ‘Society’ is built around three main components that all students are exposed to, and interact with, throughout a school year. (1st Books of the Month/Monthly Meetings, 2nd The First Readers Club, and 3rd Bi-Annual Society Challenges)
•Remember though, the goal of ‘The Society of Literary Scholars’ is not necessarily that every child will love reading but rather that every child will make reading progress in a nurtured and positive way.
