The Literary Terms Unit is designed for students to master knowledge and fluency of fundamental terms used for literature instruction and analysis. This unit is not literature content specific, and can be used effectively and efficiently in any literature study curriculum.
The micro unit includes:
Study Packet - The study packet is organized into 6 worksheets, each with a different focus: Literary Forms, Types of Text, Story Elements (People), Story Elements (Storyline), Literary Devices, Literary Comparisons. Each worksheet has between 4 and 9 terms.
Glossary of Terms - The glossary lists alphabetically all the literary terms included in this unit and their definitions. Direct instruction is encouraged to give the students the definitions and examples of the terms, although the glossary may be a helpful reference document for students to have in their notes / folders / binders during literature instruction.
Final Exam and Answer Key - The final exam is a 75 multiple choice question test.

The Literary Terms Macro Unit would also include: a formative assessment, a pre-test and answer key, assessment and pre-test interpretive documents, the term definitions PowerPoint presentation, flash card templates, and two images appropriate for classroom posters or student handouts.
