I have students cut and paste these notes into their notebooks in the beginning of the year. As we go through each literary device, students take notes while we discuss. We refer to these notes all year. Terms include conflicts, point of view, theme, figurative language, foreshadowing, different forms of irony, mood, tone, and symbolism. Teacher guide/completed answers are attached. A few students prefer to write everything by hand, which is fine, but these scaffolded notes are great for most kids because they require students to pay close attention and fill in the blanks without having to write absolutely everything. Also, if a student comes to your class mid-year, you can just print a copy of the teacher guide/answers and that student will have ALL of the notes.
