This is a BIG PowerPoint that you can pull out throughout the year as you introduce or review the various reading and literature skills taught in English class. Definitions and good examples or illustrations are presented for each term, and student review slides are included at the end of each section.

A five-page note sheet that you can print out for students is included at the end of the slide show. It includes definitions for all 77 terms. A one-page list of all of the terms, without definitions, is also included since this can be useful for games or review activities.

Poetry Terms

This presentation includes terms that are frequently taught with along poetry units. The topics include: Sound Elements, Figurative Language and Word Choice, Organization of a Poem, and Types of Poems. (For convenience, figurative language is included in both presentations.) The terms are presented with definitions and examples. Many of the examples are taken from poetry and other types of literature. The sections include slides with student review questions.

Also included at the end of the PowerPoint is a two-page completed notebook sheet which can be printed out in advance for students to complete as they view the slides, and a handy, one-page list of just the terms is also included.
