Start the school year with a reading challenge that will not only push kids to explore other genres and authors, but is fun too!
Sometimes our students find themselves in a reading rut. No matter how many great books there are to explore, all they want to read is Diary of a Wimpy Kid, or a graphic novel, or realistic fiction.
Literature BINGO is a resource that will push students out of their reading comfort zone and get them trying genres, themes, and authors they may not have given a chance otherwise.
Included in this resource:
-3 different BINGO boards (genre, theme, author)
-a Reading Response Choice Board with 16 different activities (for both fiction and non-fiction texts)
-a letter to parents explaining the assignment
-an assessment rubric
I have always received great feedback about Literature BINGO from parents and students alike! Many students are surprised to find other genres that they really like, and parents are thrilled to see their children reading a bigger variety of texts.
I recommend giving students 2 months to work towards a BINGO as you will have some students who struggle to read quickly and you want them to experience success with this assignment.
Because there are 3 different BINGO boards, you can have Literature BINGO running throughout most of the school year!
Please let me know how things go with this resource if you choose to try it - I would love to hear your feedback!
