In this creative and engaging project, students create their own book backing for the literature circle book they've read. The purpose of the assignment is to create a concise and engaging synopsis of the text including a literary critic's commentary.
I use this as a fun, academic way to end my literature circle unit: students' ability to summarize a text and delivery their thoughts in a concise manner are truly put to the test. I also hope that through this process, they become interested in some of the other book backings they read, but I guess that's just a way for me to secretly get them interested in reading another book...
After directions and brief examples, students participate in a peer evaluation and revision process. From beginning to end, this project probably takes between one and two hours, depending on your student population. Enjoy!
