I have learned from experience that children learn best through authentic literature. I remember my 5th grade students being bored to tears while trudging through stories in our basal reader. Once I implemented literature circles into my curriculum, my classroom was always abuzz with excitement and gone were the days of forcing them to read. Literature circles incorporate multiple intelligences and learning styles, in addition to teaching students about multiple perspectives and working in a group. Inside this document, you will find general forms to help you when facilitating literature circles in your classroom. The document includes a calendar, social skills, observation checklists, journal entries, a rubric for the final project, a novel summary, and peer and self evaluations. These forms are general enough to work with any novel and have been designed to accompany my other novel products.
