Description

This Literature Circle or Reading Strategy Game keeps students discussing their books in a fun way. You can use this set with any story. I use it with literature circles, but it can also be used in shared reading, read aloud, and guided reading. This game idea came to me as I was looking for a way to change up literature circles without compromising great student-led discussion and higher-level thinking. This was an instant hit with my students, and I’m excited to be sharing it.

The game is basic in that students take turns choosing game cards, responding to them, and moving a long the game board. The preview gives a much more detailed explanation of how it guides students to discussion and using reading skills and strategies.

The game cards require students to answer and create higher level thinking questions. This encourages them to think about the story from different perspectives. This has been a great alternative activity for my students who need a change from the "same old" literature circle routine.

Included in this set are:
- Student Directions
- Game Cards: 16 open ended questions; 16 question starters for students to complete
- 8 colored spinners (I laminate them and use a brass fastener with a paper clip to make the spinners.)
****Spinners are not required. Number cubes or dice can also be used to determine student points.
- 2 colored game boards
- Colored Game Markers for players to keep their places
- Game Labels to put on the outside of the Ziploc bag or folder
Materials can be put together in a Ziploc bag or a folder for students to use during literature circles. Students will stay busy while having in-depth conversations about what they are reading.
