Are you starting Lit Circles in your classroom!?
This is a great resource for you!
Here's how I used these:
First I modeled each job for 1-2 days as a whole class. We read Stone Fox as we went through each job. It took about 2 weeks to model each of the jobs 1-2 times and to read the book (a chapter a day).
Example: read aloud ch. 1. Then if we were practicing being the discussion director I would pass out the Discussion Director page to every student and as I read I would pause and say "ok write down a question". At the end I would model how to ask/answer questions in conversation. Then I would split them up in groups and they would ask each other their questions and discuss.
Then I let them choose their group books.
I made a binder/folder for each group (not each student) with all of these resources in them.
We have 40 minutes for Lit Circles so I split the time up, 20 to read and do your job and 20 to discuss. This is not anything special. You could also have them read at home and come ready to discuss. It's whatever works for you!
They key is to start by modeling and practicing each of the jobs and how to have a strong conversation!
