Everything needed to have a student-led group project over To Kill a Mockingbird is included in this lesson. The unit will require at least nine days for reading with an additional four days for quizzes and a final poster assignment that can add two to three days longer to the unit.
Instructions for the teacher as well as a separate instruction sheet for students are included. A daily job sheet is included to assign each member of the group to complete while they do the eight reading assginments for the novel. Four quizzes test reading comprehension. Each group should have four to five members.
Directions for putting together a separate folder for each gorup and grading of the groups are included. The conclusion of the book has each group complete a poster project over a theme of their choice from the book.
This makes a good end-of-the-year project to evaluate students' ability to comprehend and analyze literature on their own. Monitoring is required for the first few days and random "checking" to be sure that studnets are on task is advised.
This acitvity requries students to be active readers and participators in a student-led reading project. After discussing the previous day's lesson from the job sheets each studemt has prepared before class, they proceed in their group to read the next assigned section of text aloud.
