A 7 day literature circle for Wagons Ho! that is planned in detail. Included is a student packet with writing and grammar review (friendly letter guide, similes, action verbs, adjectives, and adverbs) sheets. Students use Wagons Ho! in their grammar review. Also included in the lesson is measuring out the size of a Conestoga Wagon, listening to a song mentioned in the book, and a final group project where groups research and create a poster about one of two aspects of traveling on the trails.
Daily lessons can easily be tweaked to fit individual classroom needs. Accommodations could include: lessening number of grammar items students need to find; working in partners to find grammar items within the book.
I read this book with my 4th grade class in reading class as we study Westward Expansion in Social Studies. My reading class is 45- 60 minutes/day.
The only thing needed for this lesson that isn't included is the large US poster and US map needed for the student packet.
