These 4 sets of questions were initially designed for students doing an independent reading of a science fiction or fantasy novel. In class, there were 4 times when students met in small groups. They used their responses to these questions in order to create deep, critical discussions of the books they were reading, but also the way that these genre novels operate.
Over time, I began using these as homework questions, too. The topics apply to every single science fiction and fantasy novel that I've ever read--and I've read close to a thousand of them.
If you're a middle school teacher, these work beautifully with titles like The Giver, A Wrinkle in Time, The Hobbit, Uglies, and The Hunger Games.
At the high school level, these questions pair perfectly with titles like 1984, Fahrenheit 451, Brave New World, and Watchmen.
As with all products under the Literary Luminaries banner, these materials were developed by a teacher and used in a classroom, so they've been tested and then refined over several school years to get better results.
