This Literature Circle Pack has the tools you need to get literature circles running in your 2nd-4th grade classroom (can be adapted for 5th and 6th)! This set includes job sheets (which includes differentiated versions), prediction, quotation, and vocabulary activities, connection posters and a group rubric! Each job sheet page even includes an illustration section (making it more fun for students!).
Details of the files included:
-Artistic Artist: Illustrates what was read and includes a caption.
-Creative Connector: Connects with the text either by text-to-text, text-to-self, or text-to-world connections. Illustration section included!
-Discussion Director: Identifies appropriate places to pause for the Passage Predictor, and facilitates group discussion after reading. Writes a summary of how the group did…illustration section included!
-Passage Predictor: Predicts what will happen next at two separate stopping points during literature circle reading time. Illustration section included!
-Super Summarizer: Records the main events, characters and setting in the story read. Illustration section included!
-Word Wizard: Identifies new, fun, or unusual words in the text. Looks for the part of speech and definitions in the dictionary and then gets to create their own sentence and illustration!
*Group Rubric: A rubric sheet for each member of the literature circle group to use to rate each other. It is based on participation/doing job, paying attention, and reading aloud.
*Planning Page: Helps students keep track of pages to read and assignment for next lit. circle meeting. Three different formats included!
*Quotation Quest: This activity is great for teaching or reinforcing quotation marks! Students get to use ANY TEXT to identify five different character quotations. This page can also be used as a quotation pre-write, for students deciding what characters will say in their writing!
* Vocabulary Draw: I have turned this activity into a weekly literacy center in my class. Students can use vocabulary from literature circle time, or from the weekly anthology story to practice. Students write the word and then draw a matching picture to help them remember the meaning of the word.
* Book Cover of Predictions: My Favorite! I use this before we start a class novel study, or even before literature circles begin their book. Students get to see the cover of a book only, and based on that, they illustrate and write short phrases of their predictions all over the book cover. This makes a CUTE BULLETIN BOARD if they are cut out.
*Connection Posters: Multiple designs to choose from! These posters are a must-have display in your classroom when running literature circles!
*Lit. Messages- Two versions of "Lit. Messages" are included, which students use during reading. They are short-hand messages similar to text messages. Students jot down their message on a post-it and stick it on the corresponding page. After reading, students can share their messages during discussion time. These are also great to teach your students and use during social studies and science reading.
*Literature Circle Discussion Tic-Tac-Toe: This sheet is handy for group discussion time. The discussion director chooses three boxes in a row (tic-tac-toe) to facilitate group discussion.
*Literature Circle Bookmarks: This is a great tool for teaching/reminding students of their jobs while reading.
UPDATE: I have added job sheet pages with an alternate spelling for "Super Summarizer," to now include "Super Summariser," too!
