Everything you need to start literature circles with any novel!
Literature Circles are a great way to get students excited about reading and encourage deep conversation about books. You can use the resources in this pack multiple times with any book you choose.
To run literature circles with these documents, create groups of 6 students and select a book for all 6 students to read. Assign each member of the group a different role each day (Question Creator, Character Analyzer, Word Wizard, Summarizer/ Theme Tracker, Inference Detective/ Setting Seeker or Plot Perceiver.)As students are reading a chapter of their book, they fill out their accompanying role recording page. These pages are very detailed, address the common core standards, and encourage citing evidence from the text. Students then come together as a group and use the directions page to guide a discussion about the chapter. Each member gets an opportunity to share the information they discovered as they read. While one member is sharing, other members of the group get to agree, disagree, ask and answer questions, and ask for proof. These resources facilitate great discussion, hold students accountable for their work, and get students thinking deeply about the text.
