Literature circles are proven to increase reading fluency and comprehension. These materials provide you everything you need to run literature circles in your class including an organizer to help you post a schedule for the class. I designed this for 3rd grade, but the materials can work for any elementary grade level. Everything can be modified to fit your needs.
Here's what you get:
Group Schedule: An organizer to split up the students and parse their books into sessions for the literature circles. This is what you'd use on a daily basis to keep kids on track and work their way through the books. It's easily displayed on a smartboard or projector or printed for the students.
Literature Circle Jobs: A collection of 8 sheets (some double sided) with the student jobs for each session of their book. These consumables cover a multitude of standards and skills for reading and writing - you really cover it all with lit. circles. Each lit. circle "job" is professional looking, similarly styled, and scaffolds the activity for children. I usually make a packet that can be used over the course of a book. The jobs include: correspondent, connector, illustrator, graphic novelist, passage picker, discussion director, summarizer, and word wizard. I also included a cover sheet for your convenience.
Participation and Feedback Form: Students will need to get feedback for their work. This form gives you a quick way to tell the children how well they are contributing in their group.
Writing Response Guide: A guide for those of you that like to keep reading journals. It offers the student suggestions on what to write in their journals and helps them organize their notebooks. I included a nonfiction version too.
Grading Spreadsheet: A spreadsheet for you to use as you monitor your groups. It's an unlocked excel file, so you can change it to suit your needs or grading style. It can be used directly on the computer or printed and taken around with a clipboard. If you print it, you'll have to calculate your averages manually.
To access this product you will need Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. The grading spreadsheet is created in Excel. Let me know if you need help or like the product. I hope it improves your instruction and makes you look like a pro! I've found a lot of success using these in my classroom.
