This pack was created to provide teachers with a simple, yet meaningful, way to implement literature circles in the primary classroom. This method is perfect for students in lower grades that might need more support when completing independent reading, or are participating in literature circles for the first time. A one page recording sheet for ALL roles is included. This was done to save on copies, but also to prevent younger readers and writers from being overwhelmed by completing a full page for each reading.

Some of the roles may vary from traditional literature circle roles. I did this to meet the needs of the primary student. For example, instead of summarizer, the role will be Recounting Writer. Many younger students may not be able to write a complete or accurate summary. However, most students can write a recounting of a text, because it is actually a second grade standard.

Included in this pack are:

• A How to Implement Literature Circles Guide and Teacher Tips
• Literature role posters describing each role (Favorite Finder, Questioner, Recounting Writer, Word Detective, and Visualizer)
• Number circles to order or assign jobs
• Poster to describe how to complete group meetings
• Literature circle request sheet for students to fill out to request which text they would like to read.
• 6 literature circle role sheets. The jobs have already been reordered so that a different student will have a different job each day.
• 16 question cards for students to answer if there is extra time during the group meeting time
• 2 Simple book projects students can complete (describing the story elements in the book) after completing the book. All the pieces, directions, and a photograph of the end project are included.
