Are you interested in starting book clubs in your elementary classroom, but don’t know where to start? This resource contains everything you need to start book clubs or literature circles in your third, fourth, or fifth grade classroom; job posters and sheets; response tasks, schedule calendar templates, and more. Resources feature a superhero theme.
Whether you’re looking for traditional Literature Circles materials or a way to launch Book Clubs (as used in Reading Workshop), these materials will work for you. They enable you to start Book Clubs with a traditional Literature Circles approach with structured roles and tasks to complete after each reading. My recommendation is to use these tools like training wheels - there to support your students just long enough for them to learn how to conduct their own book talks and then remove.
1. Product Notes.
Several pages describing what is included and suggestions for use in the classroom.
2. Superhero Role Posters (Vertical).
Use these when introducing roles to students. Post in your classroom as reminders of the work to be completed for each job.
3. Superhero Role Posters (Horizontal).
Role posters in horizontal format.
4. Book Clubs Packet Covers.
Four different versions. Use as a cover page when making packets or folders.
5. Daily Superhero Log Sheet.
Students complete this sheet independently after reading the daily passage.
6. Superhero Role Sheets.
Job sheets for the eight roles included in this pack. Students complete one of these sheets after finishing their independent work.
7. “My Role Today” Sheets.
Optional sheets for use with students who need extra space to complete their daily role work.
8. Role Record Sheets.
Optional sheets to include in student folders or packets. Lists all eight jobs, the responsibilities of each, and a place to keep track of when students served each role.
9. Close Reading Thinkmarks.
I copy these on cardstock front to back, laminate, and give one to each student at the beginning of the year. Students keep the thinkmarks in their book boxes and use while reading independently. They serve as reminders of ways to annotate texts while reading and great places to stop, think, and write about their texts.
10. Close Reading Sheet.
Copy and hang in your classroom. Contains both sides of the Close Reading Thinkmark on one sheet.
11. Superhero Role Tags.
Requested by a buyer, these tags are perfect for students to wear while working in the group. Copy front to back on cardstock, laminate, and hang on lanyards. Students each wear a tag showing others which job they have that day. Job responsibilities are listed on the back for quick reference.
This resource also comes in a non-superhero theme. You can find it here:
