I have created "Primary Kid Friendly" roles and activities for the Primary Grades for Literature Circles or Book Groups. This packet is for STORY books/Chapter books. Each role has an animal name/theme and I have recording sheets for students to use to record their thinking. Check out my blog post to get a peek at how I use them in my classroom here: http://rulintheroost.blogspot.com/2012/06/book-groups.html
*Wise Owl Director-students will create questions to run the book group. 3 different sheets are included. A blank one for them to create their own sentences; One filled in with questions regarding a "selection" and one filled in with questions regarding a "chapter."
*Crabby Connector-students will connect the text to their self, other texts and/or the world
*Prickly Passage Picker-students will choose a passage they found interesting to read---and will record WHY they chose to read it to the group.
*Retelling Rabbit-students will retell the selection assigned by either writing what happened "First, Next, Then and Last" or by illustrating what happened for each part. (I have included 2 recording sheets for you to choose from)
*Main Idea Moose-students will illustrate the main idea of what was read and write why they chose to illustrate that.
*Snail's Trail-students will keep track of the setting; 2 sheets-1 for students to WRITE or describe the setting or different settings and 1 for students to illustrate
*Wordy Whale-students will write words that are interesting to them, unknown to them, etc. They can look up the definitions if time but will write WHY they chose the words to share with the group.
There are also:
*Role Name Cards for you to copy and use for each Job.
*2 extra recording sheets for students to complete after reading the entire book, that retells and rates the book that was read.
*Job Checklist-to use if turning the recording sheets into a packet. It will help the STUDENTS keep track of their jobs, and what they have already done.
*Assignment Bookmarks-bookmarks for students to keep track of what they will read and when it is due.
~I also have lots of suggestions on how to implement and ideas of how to use it effectively and easily into your classroom!
