If you want to start using Literature Circles or Book Clubs in your classroom, I have made it easy for you! You will find everything you need for these great classroom activities right here!
Kids will never understand the reason they have to write book reports, but they WILL understand the purpose of meeting with a group and discussing what they have read - adults engage in book clubs all the time! This is real-life learning!
Included in this unit are the following items:
*Role descriptions - there are 6 positions for each meeting that the students will take on. I have included a description of each, along with the directions they will need to complete their job.
*Job Masters - each role has a part to play - these are hand-outs that will help those students complete their role.
*Meeting Agenda - this can be laminated and used to keep meetings on the right path, and moving along successfully.
*Participation Sheets - these can be filled out by each group, allowing them to show their involvement and prepardness for the meetings.
*Evaluation Forms - (TWO TYPES!) - These are used by the groups to self-evaluate their effort, and also to help you see what is actually being done, and that everyone is participating equally. Self-reflection during this process is very important!
I have used these roles in every grade level from 3rd through 8th, and found them very effective! All students will fill all roles at some point (they trade weekly), which keeps things more interesting.
These roles are great in helping to teach multiple intelligences, team skills, cooperative learning, and so on. The benefits are endless!
