#Littalk Hashtag Discussions
#Littalk is a literature discussion activity created to practice critical thinking skills in a way that is fun and relevant for middle school students: hashtags! These discussion prompts can be used as small group, whole group, or individual activities.
Students read a discussion prompt and then create a hashtag that demonstrates their depth of topic knowledge. After creating a hashtag, students then explain their thinking through discussion, writing, and providing text evidence. This activity challenges students to think beyond basic “question and answer” tasks, and creatively apply what they know through a more meaningful process.
These discussion prompts cover setting, character development, conflict, theme, plot, citing text evidence, literary elements, and individual opinions. The discussion cards can be printed on white or colored paper, and even color coded by concept. This set also includes a teacher tracking sheet and two student handouts that can be used to record group discussions. #Littalk is a great activity to keep critical thinking skills growing and students engaged!
Since spring break, my kiddos have been super rambunctious - this activity has been a great way to keep them on track. Looking at their books in a different manner has been quite engaging. Enjoy!
