Can be used with ANY reading passage! Great set of generic Common Core-style guided questions.
- 5 Matrix Charts of guided questions based on type of passage:
a) Basic Literature Skills (apply to any type of passage)
b) Fictional Literature
d) Non-Fictional Literature
- 1 Figurative Language Handout
- 1 Blank Chart (for writing in answers)
Choose one matrix chart based on the type of passage being studied and have students answer the questions on the provided blank chart, or they can create the same blank chart on notebook paper.
More than 1 matrix chart can be used for a passage. For example, for a short story, the following combination of matrix charts apply: Fictional Literature + Basic Literature Skills + Figurative Language.
I laminated these matrix charts and formed different literature stations in class, so the students can be exposed to each type of passage and they can answer the questions on the matrix charts on their own blank charts, which they already know how to create on notebook paper (saves photocopy paper).
This is excellent for differentiated instruction, and moving up the pace of a literature curriculum.
