Product Description
This unit contains a syllabus, chapter summaries, writing assignments, a research project, a final exam, and vocabulary exercises and quizzes to work with the novel "Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy." This book brings a fictional element to the true story of how a small town in Maine cleared the inhabitants of a small island off their coast which had been settled by freed slaves since the last quarter of the nineteenth century. The book is written with great beauty and gentleness but the topic is racial prejudice at its most insidious: prejudice which doesn't see itself as such. This is an excellent introduction to an element of America's history which is difficult to understand or justify, but which nevertheless has continuing and persistant threads woven into today's America.
