The Golden Flower is a Taino myth from the island of Puerto Rico. Told by Nina Jaffe, it’s a wonderful resource for exploring Taino culture in the classroom. This literature unit allows educators to embrace either individualized or whole group instruction with this story, and provided a full range of support materials to that end. A unit-at-a-glance document allows both regular teachers and substitute teachers to easily guide learners through their study of the book, and a fully-functioning student glossary provides the necessary framework for both spelling and vocabulary development.
Lesson plan ideas for art activities and writing process integration are part of this unit, as well as printable activity pages with answer keys. Examples of support printables include a secret code spelling page, a vocabulary crossword puzzle, a story question crossword, word search puzzle and more.
