Several core content standards ask students to evaluate and analyze different types of literature. This literature project helps students compare historical fiction novels with non-fiction books about the same time period.
Students work independently to answer ten questions about author's purpose, literary style, and overlapping factual information. The project is designed with open-ended questions that can work with any pairing of historical fiction and non-fiction texts. It can also be used to guide a literature circle discussion or to provide a framework for literacy center activities.
If you would like to receive the Word document format in order to personalize the file for your students, I would be glad to provide that free of charge. Just post a note in the Q&A section or send a message to scampbell (at) lfschools.org .
