Product Description

Try out these high-interest methods for further developing students understanding of setting and symbolism.

Using film clips, students study different elements of setting and how it becomes "its own character". Have students do this all on their or own or even better, do part together and part on their own.

For this graphic organizer, I showed a film clip from The Notebook (when Allie and Noah are on the little boat on the pond) and from The Hunger Games (the reaping).

The second graphic organizer focuses on symbolism. I showed a clip from Castaway (when Wilson is lost), The Hunger Games (President Snow cutting white flower), and Easy A (Olive sewing As onto her clothes). We filled out the first three rows of the graphic organizer together.

Teacher instructions included. Journals suggestions are also provided.
